Lab
Lab is a color space designed to more accurately represent colors as perceived by the human eye, compared to RGB or CMYK.
Its main feature is the separation of brightness information, which is handled by one channel, from color information, which is handled by the other two channels. Managing Lab requires specific software (ref. clickblog.it).

Foil (Lamina)
A thin layer of metallic material applied to paper using a process called hot stamping or foil stamping, which involves the use of a die. Common foils include gold, silver, and copper.

Laminil
A material made by heat-bonding (without adhesives) two sheets of paper with a core of expanded extruded polystyrene. It features exceptional rigidity, durability, and lightness, making it unmatched by other materials. It is often laminated with a printed paper or cardboard sheet and widely used for display signage.

Width – P (Profondità -Larghezza
Indicated as P [depth], this is the measurement of the short side of the base of a closed packaging when placed on a surface. Unless specified otherwise, it is assumed to refer to the internal dimension.

Lithographic Plate (Lastra litografica)

A plate used in offset printing. It is mounted onto a cylinder in the press and transfers ink to a rubber blanket, which then prints onto paper. Made of aluminum, one side is specially treated to hold the image. Plates used to be imaged via an electrophotographic process, but today they are typically created with Computer-to-Plate (CTP) technology.

Layout (Impaginazione)
The arrangement of text, images, and graphic elements on a page (in publishing) or on a die-cutting layout (in packaging design).

Liner – L
L – Liner

Brown paper, made in Italy, with good mechanical properties. It is produced in one or more layers from fibrous materials and used in the production of corrugated cardboard.

Lb – White Liner
White paper with the same mechanical and production characteristics as the brown liner.

Lithography
From Greek “lithos graphos” meaning “drawing on stone.” A printing technique where images are created on stone plates. The engraver prepared the reversed image so that it would appear correctly on paper. This traditional method is now rare, with only a few workshops preserving the craft. Only signed and numbered lithographs hold economic value; others are considered mechanical reproductions. Today, the term "lithography" is often incorrectly used to refer to offset printing.

Logo
Short for logotype, it represents a product, company, or organization. It consists of a symbol or a graphical rendering of a name or acronym. Sometimes it is part of a broader brand mark.

Low Resolution
See Resolution.

Length – L (Lunghezza)
Indicated as L [length], it refers to the long side of the base of a closed package placed on a flat surface. Unless otherwise specified, it is assumed to be the internal measurement.
